Autumn is Here

Many a happy day spent blackberrying in the lanes and fields and hedgerows around Wicklow as a child; especially for us Dublin Jackeens, the idea of picking your food off a plant, it just lying there waiting to be plucked, was fascinating and remains so til this day.

Do you know, last month I was eating fresh, ripe, sweet raspberries from wild bushes in Scotland. I return home expecting the blackberries to be in abundance, only to find rotting flowers and small, hard stubs of berries instead. The incessant rain, though mixed with the burning sunshine, has rotted most of the plants.

Very frustrating.
