Night Life

Taken from the rooftop terrace of the Victoria, in Rome - I loved watching the night life below us, as we sat on the terrace or an evening (the mad Irish - it was too cold for the natives in April)
One of my favourite memories of the Roman part of our honeymoon.

Lightening Rod

Taken in April in Rome, it's another ominous story of the Vatican visit - I felt as if at any minute the lightening would strike the obelisk !

Another view from the Palatine

Another view from the Palatine gardens across Rome, on a sunny April day. I was pleased with the colours, the pink and hints of yellow and the green and terracotta.

I also was pleased that the Rome visible is timeless, the villas are not ostensibly modern, there is little to date the shot, and I avoided the bustle of the city centre.

Interior thoughts

I have a series I took inside the Basilica, Vatican City, at low light without a flash, something that I struggle to do well. This is one of the better shots (newspublic.com asked to use it on an article) and I am pleased that I got a lot of detail, I like the angle, I like the roof and the way I got the dome. I need to practise more though, as I am too slow to get the right speed and light when strolling around.

From one of the 7 Hills

Taken in the Palatine Gardens in Rome; the brown wall is part of the palace of Augustine and the distant hill is another of the hills of Rome - i liked the rural feel, perhps more like the view originally had from this sopt. The bustling heart of the Capitol has disappeared.

At the Corner of City and Sky

Another from the top of Castel D'Angelo, Rome. I love the angle of the buildings, red agaisnt white and both set against the lowering thunderous sky.

Heathens, Begone!

Why the title? well we felt slightly unwelcome when we pitched up the Vatican on a lovely bright morning....but then a thunderstorm broke out above our heads. But relaly, it only added to the drama and sense of occasion :)
