Views from the Circle

Views across the headland on Orkney from the Ring of Brogdar stone circle;

Close up of the stones - the sufaces are beautiful despite years of weathering.

I can see gods....

View from the Ring of Brodgar, across the landscape. The sea level has risen over the centuries, but otherwise it's a reasonably unchanged vista. From the vantage point of the raised hillock beyond the circle (where it is postulated some ultimate or post-ritual ceremony took place) this is a dramatic and inspirational view. You can just see one of the ancient pathways worn through and around the site in the front of the photo.

Dominate

Another from Orkney: Not only are the stone circles, particularly the Ring of Brogdar, impressive - each individual stone is extraodinary. Allowing for the weathering they've recievied over the millenia, they still boast impressively angualr shapes and each dominates the aspect of the landscape behind them when you stand in the circle.

Stones in Circle, Worshipping

From Orkney, one of the most interesting Stone Circles I've been around. I took several shots of various aspects; I think I may post them up now.
Because of the level of tourism it's hard to describe this place in terms of either BrĂ or Bua but I have to say I could imagine easily the drama of the place, at the right time.

Pompeii Plaza

Just love the angles on the "floor" of the square; this was taken in April on honeymoon in Italy. While visiting Pompeii, I loved the angles created by the ruined architecture - something new and beautiful out of something that once was whole, and beautiful.

Another view from the Palatine

Another view from the Palatine gardens across Rome, on a sunny April day. I was pleased with the colours, the pink and hints of yellow and the green and terracotta.

I also was pleased that the Rome visible is timeless, the villas are not ostensibly modern, there is little to date the shot, and I avoided the bustle of the city centre.

From one of the 7 Hills

Taken in the Palatine Gardens in Rome; the brown wall is part of the palace of Augustine and the distant hill is another of the hills of Rome - i liked the rural feel, perhps more like the view originally had from this sopt. The bustling heart of the Capitol has disappeared.

Moment in Time, Caught in Marble

One of the pieces on display in the Colosseum, the details and figures have burred and worn ofer the years but they are still an extraordinary work of art.

I really liked how it came out against the dark background - it feels as if it was suspended.
