Sunset at Thurso
The Lonely Planet Guide to Scotland desrbes Thurso as a grey wet place filled with dissaffected youth and pram pushing teenage mums. We were not expecting much but we booked the Waterside B and B for the night, and prepared to be bored out of our brains....The Waterside looks grim from the outside but is an old building with basic but pleasant rooms, lots of space in them and a lovely proprietor who more than made us feel welcome. She recommended a nearby Indian for dinner so we went for a walk on the beach first ...................
lovely place, really lovely. After dinner we went for a walk to enjoy the sunset, along the pier. After a lovely wander and some chat with the local fishermen we passed a surf shop filled with young folk practising for a musical society! It was one of the most surreal but enjoyable moments listening to showtunes being sung on a deserted pier in the twilight!
