The Moon at Morn

No not sunrise but the incredible moon that hung over Dublin this morning at 8am! The pictures hardly do it justice, as we left home it was a large creamy yellow disc, unnaturally clear and hanging low on the horizon as the sun rose. it was a beautiful sight!

Swans and Chimney Stacks

Only in Dublin
would two swans
crossing the docks
greet you in March

Light reflecting
refracting the image
of urban life
and city living

hazy sun and
smokey stacks
a tall ship mast
and two wild swans

Welcome to my city
cosmopolitan
21st century
metropolis

Welcome to my city
Viking terrority
mystical land
mysterious port.

Making the Mundane Magical...

I love this shot because something utterly mundane, my back garden, looks mysterious and romantic in this light. Taken just before the rain came pelting down - in one of the rare moments of relative dryness this summer :)

Night Life

Taken from the rooftop terrace of the Victoria, in Rome - I loved watching the night life below us, as we sat on the terrace or an evening (the mad Irish - it was too cold for the natives in April)
One of my favourite memories of the Roman part of our honeymoon.

In the Garden: Variagated Ivy

Ivy covers our entire back wall and is threatening to climb the back of the house. not the dark green ivy I remember as a child but the variagated ivy climber, with cream hearts and shiny waxy green on the outer part of the leaf; on red vine. I love the colours even though the Mr. is planning ivyocide on the plant if it continues to creep any further.

In the Park

A little "pastel" from the photoshop :) I liked the aspect of the shot, it actually reminds me of the Avondale parkland. We spent many a happy sunday in Avondale as a child, just as my mother and her brothers spent in Le Bois in Brussells. I really enjoyed being where they had been, and that it reminded me of being young, seemed very auspicious!

In the Forest

The forest park that is the remnant of the great forests that once surrounded the city; we went for a walk from the university side, in the near continuous drizzle on Saturday - enjoying the green, lush colours. Definitely one for the "Urban Beauty" category. It's a wonderful park, unfortunately ungoing a fair bit of work on pathways etc at the moment but still an oasis as long as the weather isn't good. Once the temperatures soar the citizens come out in droves to enjoy the forest.

Empty

In preparation - for what? a ceremony, an audience? - rows of seats fill the Square. The rain drenches them, the obilisk oversees them. Something is meant to happen, soon.

Another view from the Palatine

Another view from the Palatine gardens across Rome, on a sunny April day. I was pleased with the colours, the pink and hints of yellow and the green and terracotta.

I also was pleased that the Rome visible is timeless, the villas are not ostensibly modern, there is little to date the shot, and I avoided the bustle of the city centre.

Weep, Willow

More shots of the park - the daffodils are blooming all along the little stream, along with various wildflowers and plants. There's a bus stop on the far right, out on the road and peopel sit on a little wall and stare in at the park and the daffodils

Springtime, in the City...

This morning the first real daffodils bloomed in the tiny "park" at the end of our road. It's a lovely little strip of land, with a stream running through it and a real oasis in a busy suburban area; i've photographed it in Autumn but never managed to capture the daffodils. They were planted years ago and now have taken on a life of their own and I got a few nice shots while striding past into work this morning.
