November on the Fen, Kildare

We went out onto the fen in Kildare, belonging to my other half's family, for a spot of archery. It's a lovely tract of bog and I couldn;t resist a series of photos trying to capture some of those earthy browns and rusts.

Lia Fail, Tara

View from the Lia Fail or Stone of Destiny at Tara, across the countryside (south-west facing); hard to believe that this wonderful place is under threat from a motorway, the peace there on sunday mornign was indescribable. In a few months there will be noise and light pollution and the landscape will be dissected by a monstrosity of a road. Shame on us.

bird in flight (using Chameleon)

Got Chameleon
It's really good fun :) OK I am doing pretty crude work so far, but I am going to have a real attempt at doing some nice stuff over the next few weeks. We are busy designing wedding stationary etc so this is a great tool, already it's made layering and photo-colalging much easier.

Freefall

I took a lot of photos of the waterfalls in Yosemite on my visit there; the sheer power and scale of them and the granduer of Nature in that place made for many happy hours of photography. This was taken with the camera I ahd at the time, a pretty ropey little enttity but I stilll got a couple of shots overall that I liked.

Lochs and Fjords

Many a heated debate travelling around the west coast of Scotland on what was a Loch and what was a Fjord :)

Pink

Barbie sunset :) I love this pink, and the subtle shades - the forground is too dark though, I need to do some work on it. But overall, I like.

Brora, Loch Brora

We hiked miles to Loch Brora. Well, ok we hiked a few miles to the Loch- near Doll, and Gollspie this is a wonderful area and the loch itself is dark blue set into lush green. In the distance are bare mountains reminiscent of Connemara. You approach through a forest walk and then out into the open glen. As we tried to find a way down to the Loch itself we were confronted by Stag, sporting a large crown of antlers who more or less pointed us in the right direction. A magical place, and a wonderful day.

Edinburgh Blues

Not the typical view of the Edinburgh rooftops and Old City, but I liked the splash of blue against the grey; taken a month before the tattoo as the stands were being prepared (Scotland July 2nd 2007)

Donkey Moments

As children we were obsessed with Donkeys. The west of Ireland was filled with them; you couldn't travel a Connemara road without meeting with a field of them. We made my unfortunate father stop at every hand's turn so we could get out and pet them; we kept our pockets filled with wrapped sugar lumps from every restaurant and café that we stopped at on our holidays. You rarely see them now, I had to wait until Sanday to snap these!

Baginbun Beach, Wexford - walking along the shore, the green of the kelp catches the eye on a dull and overcast day.

Cloud Watching

When we were kids we used to lie back on a hill or a flat piece of ground and watch clouds; I saw pictures in clouds, entire epics written in the sky....
The Curragh, early Summer, twilight.

Rock of Dunamaise ruined Keep

Easter 2007 (when we actually had sunshine!) I took a series of shots of the Rock of Dunamaise, Portlaoise; the ruined castle is the oldest in Ireland and s ite of great historical value. It's also a lvoely, open accessible area to visit.

Sea Mist

Crossing from Orkney Island (or the Mainland as the Okney locals call it!) to Sanday as the famous sea mist clung obstinately to the cliffs of one of the many islands. I've been over and back a few tiems now, and while mostly I have had sunny, bright crossings in my head the mist is always present, it's an iconic aspect of travelling round the Orkneys
